What is the most beautiful-looking horror movie of all time?

And Argento is a gimme, so try to come up with something else.

For me, it's "Don't Look Now." The location in which the story takes place is in itself creepy, and the fact that you see little splashes of red here and there is a nice touch. Also, that damn dwarf in the end is horrific.

One of the mostbeautiful horro movies I ever sawwas the 1979 re-make of "Nosferatu" by Werner Herzog, starring Klaus Kinksi. It's not "lush," but the composition of the scenes and the cinematography are just stunning.

    Lost Highway
Cat People (though I imagine it will suffer from 80s-isms)
    The Hunger (seconded!)

ok, this may not qualify as to what this topic thread is about, but...

when i recently saw 'night of the living dead' completely restored picture on dvd (after decades of watching the crappy print that had been passed on through all the vhs copies), i would say that was truly a beautiful thing to see.

"Repulsion" is irresistable to look at, as is "Night Tide" "Eyes Without A Face" and anything by Jean Rollin. Also a little known 50s film called "I Bury The Living." Albert Band, the director, really let his background as a painter show on that one.

The 1920s art deco look of "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" is amazing.

    Most Beautiful:
    Bram Stoker's Dracula

    Honorable mention:
    Interview With The Vampire
    Sleepy Hollow

My all-time favorites have always been Nosferatu, The Birds, The Exorcist, The Omen series and The Hunger.

From Hell (surprised that nobody has mentioned that one yet) and Sleepy Hollow were both beautiful films, but the Hughes brothers and Tim Burton have fat budgets so they better look good.

I'm going to have to go with "The Devil's Backbone", directed by Guillermo Del Toro, followed closely by his other movie "Chronos".

After that, on my list it's:

Suspiria (yeah, Argento is a gimme)
    Alien
    The aforementioned version of Nosferatu

This is a great topic, thanks for putting it up!

The three most beautiful "horror" (suspense, comedy, whatever you would call it....) that come to mind, due to whole content and cinematography would have to be:

Deathwatch with Ruaidhri Conroy and Jamie Bell
The Machinist with Christian Bale and Jennifer jason Leigh
Last but not least Dagon with Ezra Godden

i really loved the movie house of a thousand corpses
they way it was filmed i could only see red for a half and hour after the movie was over
as well the ending was quite superb
the devils rejects was done quite well too with good role reversal of slasher vs victim

but for me i love the sleepaway camp series
        and pinhead

        Alien was absolutely gorgeous.

Ridley Scott is all about detail and lighting.

I was thinking Argento...the set design and use of color by the Italians is wonderful.

But I have to agree with Ebooty....ALIEN....it still floors me today...no other movie is/was/ever been as truly alien.

I hate but enjoy the other Alien movies...but it bother's me that they try to explain the how's and why's of the Alien Mythos...I like that it's not explained in the first film.

          Lovecratian Horror in space....

Ok, not exactly a horror, but I noticed Cronenberg missing so let me throw outa recent creepy movie I just loved:

            -Spider

But for all-times-sake, I find The Exorcist beautiful, and of course horrific.

PS- And an amen to Chronos, Dagon, and Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Oh yes! Spider is beautiful. I think Cronenberg makes beautiful movies.

Beautiful is in eye of the beholder , so Videodrome is gorgeous...those throbbing televisions, fleshy cables, and lots of tv static..wierd and beautiful.

I remember, when I was growing up, I would go to the local movie rental place and see "the Silence of the Lambs" VHS on the shelf and it would give me chills. Something about that picture of Jodie Foster with the death's head moth on her mouth...

Hmmm, many great horror movies in my mind at this moment...well, some of them are as follow:

    01. Bram Stoker's Dracula
    02. Angels heart (perfection at hand, every part of the film is filled with eerieness)
    03. Silent hill (the atmos is supreme)
    04. Alien (but only the first one)
    05. Shadow of a vampire (Willem Dafoe's uber performance make's it such a great movie)
    06. Nosferatu (1922 - respect)
    07. Hellraiser (1,2,3,4 - well...either you like it or not but the idea behind the movie is original - only flesh and pain :)
    08. Nightbreed
    09. Dawn of the dead (both old and new one)
    10. Exorcist (the last but not the least - one of the greatest movies of all times)
