Hate to be the one to break the news, but the live version of TEXAS CHAINSAW at Cellspace was a total waste of time and money.
I expected low production values, it is supposed to be campy after all.
BUT....there were some major problems (which is why literally HALF (maybe more) of the audience left during intermission)
#1 unless you are seated in the first row you miss 3/4 of the action since they A.) didn't bother to build a stage and B.) don't bother to try and keep the action high enough that even 1/2 the audience can see it.
#2 They dont use a sound system, so you cant heard most of the dialouge.
On top of the "missing most of the play" issues for the majority of the audience, it ran waaay to long.
The "script" was a joke (totally unfocused, not funny, basically boring)
and they focused almost all of the blood spray on the front 1/4 of the audience (the rest of you get to watch the people in front have all the fun).
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
You don't have to take my word for it...ask someone you know who attended one of the earlier performances what they thought. Odds are good that they were in the 1/2 of the audience that left after intermission (I actually stayed to try and give it a chance and ended up just wasting more of my time)
I went to see EVIL DEAD LIVE and it was great...
BUT what's missing now basically is that the group of people now making up the cast seem to have decided that what is important is for THEM to have a good time and that's where their focus is, not on playing to the audience.
It's masturbatory theatre. "Ha ha isn't this fun!"
That'd be okay if the performance was free or $5...but at $20 a ticket, it's not acceptable.
